Defaults on credit file after 6 years?

Options
Hi all

I have a default on my credit file and on my credit report the default date was 9th June 2007.

Im aware that defaults stay on your file for 6 years and 6 years is up in the next few weeks.

Can anyone advise what actually happens when a default is removed? if i get a copy of my file on say 10th June will the default/account no longer be there?

Do i need to contact anyone to remove this?

thanks

It 'drops off' or disappears...as though it was never there.

You dont need to do anything and credit reporting companies should never be able to add it back again.

On Experian and Callcredit it should be gone on that day.

On Equifax it might still be there. Should still automatically come off with a few weeks, but if it doesn't you may need to complain to Equifax. They usually deny that it is down to them, but that is rubbish.

I today checked with my stat £2 report to Equifax and my deafulted account (default date 18/4/2007) has been replaced with the same account 6 months in arrears as of May 2013. Complaints now raised with Equifax and original lender.
Been there, done that and Ebay'd the t shirt.
