I have a washer dryer. I just don't use the drying function as it takes about 3 hours to dry. I'll take a look at the airer and see if it is god for shirts.

I find non crease material is often polyester or has a shiny look about it which I don't like.. Ultimately I might have to buy an iron, but could put other stuff into an airer or something like that.

I iron bedding for me, not to show off.
I like the fresh feeling of getting into a nicely pressed bed.

Maybe I am just posh :P

But then I don't iron shirts so I guess it's balanced out!

Hi, I had something similar to this when I was pregnant and could not bend too much due to SPD. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/9019535.htm

Now I'm back to using the iron and after being in the attic for 5years I've given to my sister.

Does that really save any time over ironing?

I'd like to hang things outside, but I live in a newly build block and they don't want things hanging outside as it makes he place look a bit less neat. .

I would not put up with such a ridiculous ruling! I would hang my washing out if I wanted to and sod the busy bodies who think it doesn't 'look neat'. What if you don't have the space inside. And there is the environmental aspect if you need to use a tumble dryer or heated airer - what a waste of money.

I hang my washing outside when possible after giving it a good shake. I iron almost nothing - just some smarter work tops if necessary, which is rare - most creases drop out or new ones are formed on wearing anyway.

It's a common clause in leases on modern blocks of flats. Breaking the lease could see you evicted!

Yeah, I volunteered in a charity shop myself, but these things give off a lot of steam / heat which I don't think I would want. Maybe something that dries clothes gradually is for me.

As for the point on eviction. Yes, I have no choice, and since the place is newly built they are quite strict and looking out for those who flout the rules.

What a stupid rule! Thank god for my back garden with a washing line I can do what I like with!

I have a tumble dryer, which I tend to only use if it's raining or I'm short on time. Must if it's nice outside I hang stuff out.

I only iron things that need doing. I NEVER iron towels, tea towels, sheets, duvet covers or underwear! I do iron shirts as they just look awful if you don't.

That had a car park underneath, at ground level. There was a woman who insisted on hanging her very skimpy underwear out on her balcony. There was a crash at least once a week from drivers getting distracted by her frillies. One crash took out a supporting pillar for the building (6 floors worth of flats above it) and took over 18 months to repair.
