I stupidly just replied to the e-mail saying thanks and realised I should have asked for feedback right after I sent it. They only said well done for making it to the second interview against some tough competition. Would it look weird to e-mail tomorrow and follow up asking for feedback?

    .

    Just 'thanks'?

I would have said 'thanks for seeing me and the opportunity to interview for the role and you were very keen on the role and that taking on board for future interviews was there anything you could learn from the interview and any feedback they could offer. Something like that.

No, I meant that I replied thanking them (for inviting me to both interviews), not that I said one word.

yes but you really should have expanded as it seems like you weren't that bothered not to get it. You don't have to beg for it once they have turned you down but I would have asked for any feedback they could offer that's all

I realise I should have asked for feedback seconds after I posted it, I was just gutted that I didn't get it and wrote a basic response. I don't see the point in "fighting" for a job or sending a wordy e-mail back when I've just been told I didn't get it, it won't change the outcome as they've made their decision. Simply thanking them for the opportunity (and asking for feedback which I would have done any other time, I merely forgot this time) is enough I think.

I know. I was referring to when you said that I didn't say enough, and that I should have expanded on how I was keen on the job etc. I just don't think it's bad to only thank them and ask for feedback. If asking for feedback is all you meant by expanding on it then I know I should have and I did say I would have had I not forgotten.

I just e-mailed asking for feedback, should have done it before but never mind. :o
  • These days with companies trying to save money, phone interviews are used both for screening interviews and for full formal interviews. The way you know if you are participating in a screening interview is if the interview is in your first round and it lasts around thirty minutes or less. It's generally a screening interview to make sure you pass certain basic qualifications. Often those qualifications are: Do you have some specific technical skills that the job requires? Certain character traits that the job requires? Also, are you actually interested in the job? So for instance, if you are interviewing to be a receptionist in a phone interview they are going to see what your phone interview etiquette is like. Can you handle yourself professionally on the phone with someone and can you be somebody who represents their company professionally. In other positions like retail they want to make sure you have integrity, can you manage yourself without being watched and overlooked. Finally, they want to make sure you are motivated to work for the firm. So it's very common in that preliminary screening interview to be asked why do you want to work for us and what do you bring to the table for this job.
Remember what Einstein said, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting a different result.”

    Thanks all.

I've updated the first post as I have another interview next week.

As well as 'difficult' customers, one might hope you'd be asked about particularly anxious customers, and / or those with mobility or sensory limitations.
