Natwest mortgages and tax credits?

what does affordability mean ? in my mind it is all income added together minus expenses ,i need to use £242 to get my mortgage but in the real world i still have £842 tax credit ,my wife gets £240 care allowance and dla £300,so money coming in not counted is over £1300 /4 weekly ,if my wife was still in her previous job she would be earning over £30000/year and not a carer for our disabled son but unfortunately that is not possible but does that mean we should be penalised or prejudged due to receiving tax credits. In my opinion there is far worse going on ,corrupt banking practices/bonuses ,mp`s false expenses but all of that is taken as income!0
