DVD rental by post thingy

Options
Is anyone signed up to any of the DVD rental services? I'm thinking about doing it as a present for someone but not sure on prices/how limited they are - anyone got any ideas, plus which are the best ones?

It really depends upon how many films a month you would watch. Im currently on tescos unlimited where im allowed 1 disc at home at a time for £8 and i watch about 10 films a month so it works out at about 80p per film. Which is really good value and they have an extensive range (think its the biggest unlimited) of about 56,000 titles. Amazon rental is different. You pay a fee each month (dont know how much think its about £8) and you can have a certain amount of rentals per month (think its 7/8) so it works out at about £1 per rental.

If you are only wanting to rent about 2/3 times per month then the best is probably a lower priced Amazon package or other online rentals offer rental at £1.99 (i think) per disc. Which isnt too bad.

If you are going to rent more than 8 films a month (at least 2 a week) then an unlimited package is for you and Tescos do the cheapest as far as i know. If you are going to rent less than 8 it is probably best to go with either Amazon or another online rental where you pay per disc.

I can say that tescos are pretty quick dispatch and i havent had any problems with them. Likewise alot of people on here have said Amazon is excellent. The best thing to do is have a look around and pick the package that is the best for you.

Hope that helps (and if i am wrong on any of the prices please correct me;) )

Tescos like many of the other dvds by mail companies are linked with Lovefilm, who seem to do the actual distribution.

I'm with Tesco, also on the one disc at a time deal, and though I probably only watch about six per month, even at one a week it would still be cheaper than the local shop. And you get clubcard points.

One proviso is, you can't be too set on seeing a particular film at a particular time as it's pot luck from your list of selections what they send out, in my experience anyway.

They've emailed to say they're sending one of my top priority items next time(for a change) which almost feels like a small win on the lottery!

Yes i had the same problem and what i did was put all the films i really wanted to see at 1(as you would anyway) then put about 3/4 films that you want to see at 2 (youll understand) then put the rest of your list at 3 and then most of the time you should get films from 1 and 2 so if you put the films you really wanted to see in those 2 categories you should get these films most of the time. Worked for me anyway just this month have had all but one of my films come from these top two sections (about 4 from categorie 1) and as i only have films i really want to see in section 2 aswell i get to see a film i want to see almost every time. Give it a try it might work for you aswell;)

Don't forget you can actually get paid for signing up for a DVD rental trial via Quidco.com. Just don't forget to cancel the trial, and read the T & Cs carefully!

hi, in summary you got 3 types, but try the free trials for 1 and 2 before buying. search on the discount codes for 3 months for lovefilm and 1 month for blockbuster
    1. lovefilm, you must create a list of at least ten titles, then any of the ten in that list can be sent to you, so you don't always get the titles u want. pay monthly

    2. blockbuster, same as lovefilm but you don't have to have a long list of films, if there is one inparticular u want just put that 1 in your list, then it gets sent!

    3. easycinema.com (run by easjet), pay as you go £1.99 each, check out web site for details, you don't have to create along list.

I recently finished a month's free trial with mymoviestream.com. You have a month's free rental if you have an Egg card (either Egg Money or Egg Cedit card).

    Before that, i had a month's free with sofacinema.co.uk.

Since i'm a cheapskate, i cancelled both at the end of the free trial periods!

We gave up, the DVD's were always scratched and dirty, and they kept skipping or stopping mid-way through. Really annoying. Tried two different companies as well!

Ive never experienced this what companys were you with. Tesco did once send me the wrong disc but that was put right with a quick email to customer services and the right disc arrived the next day and i sent the other one back. So i was happy.
