Real-life MMD: Should friend with points on his licence pay more for car insurance?

Uhm.... I think if someone dies on holiday then maybe worrying about the insurance is the least of your problems (especially if it's you doing the dying)0
-
Frankly, if I were in your shoes I wouldn't let him anywhere near my car, so the problem wouldn't arise.
Anyone irresponsible enough to get points on their licence in the first place can't be trusted not to abuse your generosity and, remember, it's the registered keeper of the vehicle who suffers in the end.
Either you do all the driving, or your friend pays the additional premium. There is no earthly reason why you should contribute to any of it.
If you decide to add your friend temporarily to your policy, check with your insurer the situation if a claim arises during the period of cover. You might not be the cause of a claim, but it can still affect your own premiums in future.0 -
Don't let him drive. You drive *his* car. That way, you don't get to also pick up the increased premium if - heaven forbid - you get into an accident while he is driving.0

I think I'd feel happier if the friend with points on his licence sat in the passenger seat.I am the Cat who walks alone0

This is easy. "You" do all the driving, no squabbling, etc.
Friend just pays half the fuel, otherwise take the bus & see how that works out!!0 -
I would either just pay half or I would say I will do all the driving as it will cost more if you are on the Insurance.
I wouldn't get into "You pay more because you have points".
Also it would depend on how much more. A few quid fine. A few hundred not so fine!0 -
I think your friend should pay whatever it costs to add him to your insurance - the full amount - regardless of whether the points on his licence affect it or not. Of course, that is assuming he is not paying a share in the wear and tear costs for using your car for this holiday ...0
