But weren't the Arch Cru Funds FSA regulated OEICS, and managed my Capita?
Yes. However, most realised that they were unconventional unit OEICs. Simple due diligence showed flaws in the marketing. And even classed as "cautious managed" for that that is worth?
It was one of the reasons why cautious managed sector was renamed. However, every sector has funds that are higher or lower risk than the typical fund in that sector. I read some research last year that broke down the old balanced managed sector across a 1-10 risk scale and there were funds that fell into 5 of those risk profiles. The name of the sector is not reliable for research. How would a normal investor, or an IFA for that matter, have known that they should stay clear? I don't think the performance was "too good to be true" when most of the money invested?
Very easily. Indeed, I posted on these boards before they went wrong that I couldnt see how an adviser would recommend them. Others did similar. There were gaps in what was disclosed and there was too much private equity.ISTR that one criticism was that how the funds worked was not transparent. But that applies now to some very large and widely held AR style funds doesn't it?
That was an issue and many feel Capita got away with it lightly. However, the adviser is there to do the due diligence and research and it was there for any adviser to see if they actually did it. That is why the advisers that recommended it have taken the biggest hit.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only.
