Paternity Pay

Hi
I understand paternity pay currently is £136.78 for 1 week, can take 2 weeks.
Is that 1 week classed as 5 days or 7 days? I would of thought 5 days as they are the usual working days.
My 1 week paternity leave went over two months/pays. This month i had 3 days of the leave to come off my pay. It says paternity leave i got £58.62 which when devided by 3 gives £19.54. £19.54 x 7 gives the £136.78 so is it 7 days? Just want to make sure before going to my finance department.

I would imagine it's not broken down at all, its just a week of whatever would be your normal working hours, as long as you get the total £136.78 then does it matter? If when you get your next pay statement you don't get the balance then that's the time to question it."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

Well I think I've been taxed twice on the paternity pay. I've been given £58.62 gross for 3 days paternity in this months pay. Then taxed on it.
If paternity pay is over 7 days, each day is £19.54, which is what I've got. If its over 5 days which is what I work, then it should be £27.35 a day gross.0 -

Paternity pay is a weekly payment, either a full week is paid or nothing is paid. The week starts on the first day off after work is finished and runs for 7 consecutive days (14 if two weeks are taken) All rules relating to paternity pay refer to the full week so if for example the employee was to work on one of those days but be off for the other six then no paternity pay would be due at all for that week.
As I said the payment is weekly you either get a week or nothing but it can be divided if the week has to be paid across two salary payments as in your case. It is then divided by seven and so if three days have been paid this month the other four will be paid next month. It should always be divided by seven whatever the normal working week of the employee actually is.0 -

Cannot really understand what you mean by taxed twice can you give full figures of wages pat pay and tax paid and include cumulative figures if you wish them checked.
RE 5 or 7 days see my reply above.0 -
I'm not sure how much paternity i received that month, I'll need to check when i get home.
I thought if 7 days, £135.78 / 7 days = £19.54 x 3 days (this month) = £58.62 then thats added to my usual salary and tax/NI taken.
If 5 days, £136.78 / 5 days = £27.356 x 3 days (this month) = £82.068
Take Tax and NI off £82.068 leaves about the £58.62 also.
So either its over 7 days and its calculated correctly, or its 5 days and it been taxed, then put on my gross side of payslip then added to salary and taxed again.0 -

Tax and NI are calculated on your gross salary (or taxable gross for tax sometimes if for example pension is deducted before tax is taken). Tax is never deducted from something before it is added to your wages. As I said if you want your tax/NI checking you will need to give full figures but I think it very unlikely that any employer would do what you have suggested.0
