Signed on for 1st time today

Hi all

I hope someone can help me?

Today, I have signed on for the 1st time since being made redundant.

Fortunately however, this afternoon I have been offered a position but the job will not start until July. When do I inform the job centre? Can I still claim my JSA until I start my new job?

Any advice will be greatly received.

i WAS told by the jobcentre, to fill in the little booklet back page ( the one in the plastic sleeve) and send back to job centre the DAY i started the new job.

Also worth following up with a phone call to check its been recieved a few days later ( if you can get through!)

Thanks for your replies, but can you advise if I have to do the following:

    1. Inform the Job Centre that I applied for job before I signed on?
    2. Shall I put on my "Looking for Work" record that I was offered a job the same day?
    3. Continue to look for other jobs, eventhough this is the job I really want and that it doesn't start until July?
    4. Will I still be entitled to JSA

    or

Do I tell a little porky and put on my form that I have applied for a job, then perhaps a week later, tell them I was called for an interview, then offered the job later next month.

Ooh, never had to do anything like this before, and I don't know what to do.:undecided

Thanks in advance for any advice

I believe you should still be looking for work - you could take work to do during June. This would mean you were still entitled to JSA.

I don't want to put a damper on the good news of a job - but it has been known for people to turn up on the first day to be met in the carpark with the news that the company was closing and their new job did not exist!

Though the job has been offered, is it a confirmed offer or subject to references or medical? A confirmed offer is obviously better but there can still be problems like the one just mentioned.

    Hi

Yes, this has been confirmed in writing, and do not see any problems with this company.

Do still look for work - maybe use the opportunity to try somehing a little different from what you have done or will be doing.

Yes, keep looking, as for once in your life you have the chance to look around you and see what else is happening out there.

HOwever, don't worry about the job centre. I doubt that they will be that interested in you unless they have reason to believe you are not a serious job hunter. You could tell them that you have been shortlisted (that's true, isn't it!) and are still looking (also true if you keep your eyes open). Everyone who gets a job has a period before it starts when they still have to eat, and AFAIK are still entitled to JSA. In JSA terms, you are a minor* success story. Congrats and enjoy the rest of your JSA period - oooo, and enjoy your new job, of course!

    * A major success story, in JSA terms, is someone who has been on JSA for almost the max and then gets a job.
