Nationwide loan confusion

Hi,

I applied for a loan on Nationwide website 3 weeks back or so as a 'soft credit check' application, logged on again a few days back but it didn't recognise my log in details so I restarted my application again and got provisionally accepted. Happy I got accepted I then applied at Debyshire (better rate) and got provisionally accepted again.

Today, I had a letter from Nationwide saying my loan application had been declined (I had not accepted anyway!) and another letter from their fraud dept saying they thought someone might have applied by stealing my details!! Could my two attempts at application have triggered this alarm? Could my Debyshire application have affected something because they are the same company? It's very strange and Nationwide were not so informative, I am wondering and worrying how my Debyshire application is coming along now :-/ I checked my credit file at Experian and it's almost perfect if that matters.

Strange, were the details on both applications with Nationwide identical?
It will raise eyebrows if your Salary, outgoings or any other detail between the applications is different.

I think so. Seeing as though the two applications were 3 weeks apart or so, net debt numbers might have changed as paid off credit cards etc but all other details were entered in good faith. I'd like to crosscheck now but can't access the original application! Still, no search has appeared on my file so I guess it doesn't matter too much. Nationwide said sometimes their internal checks get a cross wire sometimes.

Actually I was wrong, Nationwide left an imprint on my credit file on the first application 3 weeks ago that I did not even finalise. So much for the 'soft search'!!!

They leave a soft search - which is (I believe) visible to you. It is not visible to anyone doing a full search on you though.

The guy at Experian (spoke to him as closed the account) said other loan providers can see it but not the loan decision, perhaps someone on here can clarify for sure?

I was under the impression it wasn't seen by other lenders.
