Best things to buy in US to make a profit in UK

Options
Hi guys/girls

I am due to fly to the US (Miami) soon and I was thinking of bringing back some things to sell in the UK. I know that I have to aware of customs duties if I take over a certain amount but was wondering what people would recommend picking up that can easily be sold in the UK.

For example so far people have suggested: Apple products, Ugg boots and cosmetics but I would be interested in what people think.

I can spend quite a lot if there is some profit to be made! Sales tax is only 6% in Miami so everything in general is a bit cheaper but was wondering if any specific products are notably cheaper in the US.

Any help much appreciated! :D

A friend of mine, who is very keen on photography, recently bought a DSLR camera from a US website because it was a lot cheaper than she could get in the UK, even after paying import duty. Mind you, it did cost the thick end of £1500. Might be worth doing a bit of research on ? Though it's perhaps a bit of a niche market ?

If you're importing with the intention of reselling then you must declare all the goods and complete commercial import documentation. You cannot take advantage of personal import allowances and to do so would be illegal.

You are also as first importer of the goods into the EU responsible for all product safety, labelling and other compliance issues.

  • I just treated myself to a MacBook Air refurb from the Apple store for £520. Saved a bit more by having delivered to New Hampshire where there is zero sales tax.

A mark up of only 20% would end up a loss on ebay after fees.

The tone of your post suggests you arnt going to be declaring your imports or paying the associated import taxes. This isnt a forum for tips on breaking the law.

Lots of cheap ciggarettes and alcohol lol. I am not sure if there is something that might be quite popular over here but is more quite common of there. For example, something to do with Disney land, maybe some US sports team where it is difficult to get things in UK, or maybe something related to some US tv show or movie that has not come out yet in the UK. They are just my ideas,

Oh this thread is for me! I go to Florida every year and buy things to sell upon my return. From the outlets (make sure you get a coupon book too) I get:

Yankee candle soy wax tarts (so they don't take up too much weight)
Converse! I often get pairs for £10ish. There's also clothes, where I got t-shirts for something like $3 each.

    And from anywhere else:
Wilton gel icing colours (usually pay £8, sell for £16+)
Carmex cherry lip balm sticks. Not sold over here.
There's a toothpaste too...its red and a whitening one, not sold over here. Cannot for the life of me think of the name but it is on big displays in the stores. Sold them for loads.
Nerds (sweets) from $1 stores. Massive boxes that sell for £5 here.

Don't bother with Crest Whitestrips for reselling, no profit in it.

The beauty with these is that they're low outlay products so chances are you won't go over the customs duty allowance.
