Hi, I actually was going to ask them that. But first I asked them 'has the HR lawyer' you told me advised you to suspend me..actually seen these documents and they said no. To me if they havent seen it then how do they know there even is a similarity..its personal opinion on if it looks the same.
But I did think about asking them to do this.

I think I'd ask for a copy of the documents so that if needs be, you can get a graphologist to write a report showing that the handwriting is not from the same person.

In the mean time, I'd wait and see what they're planning on doing next. If they do take it further, I'd tell them that you will pay for an independent report to prove it's not you who wrote the note, and if it shows your innocence, then the uni can pay!

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

pinkshoes. I already asked for a copy of the documents and was told they will give me a copy as I also wanted to do this for the same thought wave. They told me they'd do this but haven't as of yet. The meeting I had with them was about 4 hours ago so they could have done it by now, but who knows maybe they will send it me tommorrow.

I know for a fact the writing isn't from myself so I have no worries in paying for a private indepedent report

I assume you are suspended on full pay as a neutral act? Have you got a copy of their disciplinary policy? If not get one immediately. As you have only been employed since Sept 2012 they can dismiss you when they like for any reason or none, and there is nothing you can do about it, unless you can prove they are discriminating against you on a restricted number of grounds.

Hi well i was told im suspended on pay yes...As I said I have asked for all the documentation but they haven't provided it me as of yet..maybe they will. They did take my staff badge off me though and staff card and staff discount card. I didn't argue just gave it them.
I was offically contracted August 28th I've checked..so yeah and as for the disciplinary policy I'm not sure where i can get it without asking them? But I will have to request that.
What will be the next stages? I've never been in this process before? They told me that I can resign and thats the only real option they've given me..

To correct you again, there is no legal right to accompaniment at an investigatory meeting.

Yes you are right, I wasnt aware that you had corrected me previously.
But thanks for letting me know;). And in italics too. Honoured.

    Apologies OP

    7. If there is an investigatory meeting this should not by itself result in any disciplinary action. Although there is no statutory right for an employee to be accompanied at a formal investigatory meeting, such a right may be allowed under an employer's own procedure.

Quick question - I don't understand about you needing to re-apply for your job. Does this mean you're on a fixed term contract? If not, why do you need to re-apply?

Re-applying for your own job is quite a common practice in certain industries and job sectors.

Headgirl49 as this appears to be a racism case, have you thought about contacting the Police to report a case of racism ?. Their CSI officers would soon investigate the handwriting on the altered files and prove your innocence.

Hi patman99 I did think about this but at the time i thought the individuals who did it were 16-18 year old kids and i put it down to ignorance not racism. I don't know if now i could do that or wether it'd be too late to file such a report ?

the university can dismiss me on any grounds they see fit because i'm not on a permanent contract is what it basically says in the disciplinary and more importantly my contract. My contract says it is a 1 year contract until June 29th 2013 nothing else really apart from their conduct on pay etc. It says that all evidence for any cases is put to HR and a commitee and hearing? ..is this true and normal..i'm guessing if they feel I did it they can just sack me now? And if so am I better just resigning? I only have 3 weeks left on my contract anyway which im only booked for 4 shifts..which total about £180-£190 wages? And i've thought hard about this and this job is a part time job i do alongside my degree.next year ill be doing my 3rd year anyway..and I earn £2300 a year from this job..I could probably earn that anyway if I got another job tbf..I'm just thinking with the circumstances even if i keep my job these staff may always have a grudge against me? The only awkward issue is that the staff are part of my university too..:s
