I need some advice please.
Today I received a letter out of the blue from mackenzie hall stating they are trying o contact the above named person regarding a personal matter. They state they have been provided my address as being the possible residential details of their subject.
The letter was addressed to me in a previous married name that I have not used for 12 years.
I don't know what to do.

I am really tempted to say, if it has been over 12 years to ignore it.
Anything owed wouild be statute barred anyway. Can you fasten it back up and return it marked 'not known at this address'
They are fishing to see if they get a response.
Im sure more people will be along with advice so just hang on till after tea.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Yes, a fishing letter.
I too would be inclined to just ignore them for now. If they can ever be bothered to write detailing whast exaclty they are after, then you might reconsider that with a letter telling them to bog off as it is not yours, or statute barred etc.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Muck Hall are well known for trying to get people to pay very old debts which are already statute barred.
They are allowed to ask for payment and if you pay them they can keep the money. So you can see the attraction for them; they pay 5p or less in the £1 for the debt so if you cough up 10p they are in profit.
If they try to chase you through the courts, the fact that the debt is statute barred is the only defence you need.
If this was a joint debt with a previous partner the possibility is that they managed to presuade the ex to pay somethign towards the debt at some point before the 6 year rule came into effect.
Have you checked your credit records? Is there a CCJ outstanding? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
I am not aware of any ccj's and i certainly have never received any notification of one.
Should I ignore or send statute barred letter.
Thanks for your replies0 -
Up to you really. If you do, then the one in this link may be most appropriate as you don't know exactly what the debt is.
