disabled taxi cards

my mother is a blue badge holder after 2 knee replacements living in Oxfordshire and wants to visit me in London but last time the nightmare of getting the wheelchair on & off buses spoiled the visit and we haven't done it since

A friend was telling me there is a national taxi disabled scheme that brings down cab fares but they all seem to be local councils not national - has my mate got it wrong - anyone have any information?

  • My Grandmother had one of these cards a few years back, which was issued by Transport for London, The downside was that the cabs had to be pre-booked, you could not just hail a cab. Often there was a bit of a wait before one became arrived, even longer if raining.

I think there is a scheme for London residents but my mother's bus pass is national and I wondered if there was something similar with cabs nationally

I think this is just a London scheme as my mother-in-law has access to this in Wimbledon. She's looking to move nearer us this year in Cambs but the only similar scheme I can find round here is community transport!
It seems to work very well in London and would be good to have nationwide.

I used to drive taxis in Wiltshire and the Council either issued bus passes or taxi vouchers for disabled customers.
The book of vouchers were quite limited in use as only 28 were issued each year. Each voucher entitled the user to £1 off each single fair and could only use one per trip.
