Photocopies or originals?

The documents that the broker/mortgage lenders request, such as payslips/p60/bank statements ect, is it ok to give them photocopies or would it be better to send them the originals?

Would they be suspicious if you gave them photocopies?

many thanks

Last time I had to do this, they had to be originals. The lender then copied them themselves and returned the originals to me.

I think they have to be original as copies could have been forged/altered.

When I see my clients, I ask them to take copies and have the originals to hand so I can certify them myself.

My workplace moved to online payslips and P60s some time ago. In that situation is a printout of these payslips acceptable or would i have to ask my HR department for actual payslips?

We're happy with the online ones and we don't appear to have problems with lenders we use regularly. However, if they do, we simply get an email address and have an employer's reference emailed to HR or Payroll and get the required data confirmed that way.

Lloyds TSB wouldn't accept online payslips for me, although they did have the added complication that they didn't say anywhere on them who my employer was - they only had the logo of the system provider.

My HR department had to provide a reference for me as I think normally once they move to online any payslips they provide will be the same as if you printed them yourself - although I guess they could sign/stamp it to certify it.
  • Mine were all scanned in to my broker so no originals. Bank didn't have a problem with this.

I've just photocopied everything as they are coming today for me to sign the paper work as well to get my house reservation documents. They also told me to have my debit/credit card details to hand??

I've also photocopied the front part of my bank statements and not the back information which has nothing to do with my bank aco!!!! conduct, this should be fine right?

Once they get the details from me, and they submit the full application, how long could it take for me to hear a decison back regarding acceptance or not. Just to note, broker has said we're going in with a FULL application, not a soft/AIP search.
