Flexible working hours denied - no reason i can see!

    I missed that one. OP are you happy with that job? Doing nothing all day can be soul destroying.
    Sounds like your boss isn't listening to you at all. I'm starting to think your plan of looking for alternative jobs is the way to go.

    Yes, that is what I said. Sorry if I didn't make that clear. I meant that he should ask his employer what his options are in the workplace to accommodate this changed lifestyle. The manager was out of place suggesting for the employee's friends to take care of the son, as that isn't the workplace's affair.

    I also recommended that the OP make his own plans in case the manager doesn't change his decision, so I think we're agreeing with each other here!

    I have a childminder that can collect him but the amount they charge for that hour and half is actually more than I will take home after tax!
    I only said I didnt have enough work in case he had more he can give me... not to talk myself out of a job. I hate sitting here with nothing to do, it is boring as sin and a waste of mine and my employers time.
    I asked for a trial for this so if and when it gets more busy then it could be reviewed. Bearing in mind a colleague changed her hours for one day being a 6 hour day (who is more senior and supposedly busier than me)I cant understand why I have been denied.
    I cant work Fridays because my son is registered disabled and has frequent hospital appointments which 90% of the time fall on a friday so it isnt possible to work this day....

    At the appeal stage is where one picks apart managements attempt to justify refusal. If the employees case is robust the management decision is there for overturning however i accept not everyone is equiped to take on their employer over issues such as this.

    I don't understand.
    Is your "boss" your "manager"?
    If he is, why would he be "fine with this" request and yet say "no"?
    If your boss is your manager's manager, then did your manager support your request?

    I took it to mean that the boss said no and the manager said yes.

    I assume the boss is the main boss of the company and the manager is the manager of the department or something.

    Was this all verbal OP or did you make the written request.

    It it was all verbal, read the ACAS booklet (pass it on to the boss who would benefit from reading it IMO) and formalise the matter if you wish to pursue it.
