Came across Debt management company Payplan online, considering using the to try and tackle my debts. Just wondering has anyone used them before, and what do people think about asking them for help?

Hi there,
A lot of people around here are with Payplan or Stepchange - both offer similar service, for free. Around these parts we don't recommend any paid for debt management companies as they tend to promise an awful lot, but deliver a lot less, while costing you money.
Personally, I'm with Stepchange and can't fault them, but I know others have had equally positive experiences with Payplan.
If you're thinking about going on a debt management plan (DMP) I would suggest you might like to read / join in, this huge thread - you will see lots of others in the same boat there :-)

I'm with Payplan and yes it's all free and so far going well but they don't half badger you to switch your insurance, reclaim PPI, buy a car you can't afford etc. I don't answer the phone to them any more, just do it all through the message system on the site.
I wish I had gone with Stepchange really.0 -
They never badgered me to buy anything, I was offered payment protection and life insurance and ppi reclaiming through stake your claim but nothing else. They were good, but you still gave to do stuff yourself like write to ask for interest to be stopped etc.
I have just finished my DMP with them, and they sent me a message today to say I have a £57 refund coming, I'm not sure what it is for, and they didn't seem to really know either.
Use Payplan or StepChange or CAP, but NEVER a fee paying service, as well as being an unnecessary waste of money for people who really need to save money, I've heard tales of them not bothering to contact or even pay creditors!ISA £1675MiniMoohound savings £3685.86 :T Plus £3800 CTF

I'm with Stepchange and have not been 'hassled' either. I have always found them to be helpful and sympathetic without being patronizing

I will give a massive *thumbs up* for Payplan!
They sorted me out in all of my debts, they were a Godsend to me.
The main thing if you decide to go to Playplan is.....be totally honest with them*,you must tell them of every single debt you have,if you dont then it wont work for you.
Id definatly give them a go(and they never badgered me at all)Good luck.0 -
You mean they don't call you endlessly after your annual review to 'save you money' on you car, home and life insurance? They don't call you about PPI?
Hmmm. Maybe they have me down as a mug.0 -
Never mentioned car insurance to me, they did ask about ppi and that's about it. Maybe you have a zealous caseworker. They didn't hardly ring at all to be honest. Just sent payplanplus messages.ISA £1675

I've been with Payplan over 6 years and can't thank them enough for the help and assistance that they have given me.
Yes, they do get in touch occasionally to offer insurance and they did once phone about PPI. However, a quick 'no thanks' and they do back off.
On the basis that I have had fantastic help and assistance to get me from a very dark place to where I am now, all without any cost, means that I'm happy to accept a phone call here and there from them.
I will always offer Payplan a huge debt of gratitude and I cannot praise them enough.Unsecured debt 2008 c £45,000
