my wife has had no credit cards, no loans, no hp, no mobile phone contract, no catalogues or store cards etc, and never been overdrawn, or have an overdraft, we've just got a mortgage on the HTB scheme with halifax

Fragmaster, thank you for that. If you don't mind, what's Halifax's rate on a fixed HTB mortgage? It's not obvious from their website.

    Many thanks again.

ive got 3.19% with fee's added to mortgage (not sure how this compare's with there site) this was on a £212k property with 5% deposit and 20% equity loan.

like your case, most of the earnings are from me (42k me and 5k wife) so fingers crossed wont be a problem for you, im sure one of the great FA's here will put your mind at rest

Is that for a tracker or 2-year or 5-year fixed? NatWest's 5 yr-fixed is at 3.59% so Halifax looks favourable.

One more question, did you make the application to Halifax through telephone or did you visit a branch?

We made an offer on the property today but wasn't accepted (yet).

    Appreciate all your help.
