Payroll error - underpaid

Hi,
I have a relative who has been underpaid for the past couple of months. The employer does not seem to be in a rush to fix the problem. This is for a new job and we think the problem is that the person was setup wrong on the employer's system.
So far the issue has been raised informally with a manager and payroll but the problem seems to be ongoing.
Can anyone advise on what would be the best course of action to sort this problem out. So far the money not paid amounts to 600 quid which is starting to take its toll on family finances.
Regards,

Well if informal action does not work maybe something more formal might. Before that though I suggest your relative makes it clear that this is causing them problems and needs the money immediately to avoid financial problems. Do this in writing as well as verbally. Any decent company can raise a payment very quickly. I also suggest your relative keeps an account of any costs they incur, such as bank charges, and reclaims these too.0
