Don't feel accomplished

I'm not asking for advice, just maybe a comment to say that you understand really. :/

I had an interview for a job last week and was told today that I was unsuccessful even though I knew I could do it and *really* wanted it, but the successful candidate had more experience than me.

Anyway, my advisor put me and someone else on his workload forward for a job and they met us both informally to explain the role and see if we were happy with it. It wasn't an interview and they want us both. They're obviously not strict about who they take on.

So yeah, I don't feel accomplished. I wanted to apply for it, be invited for an interview, prepare my a*se off for the interview and then get told I've got the job! It's my first job and instead of feeling that I'm feeling "ok, I'll have a job yes but I did nothing to get it and don't feel like I've accomplished anything".

I'll still look for work while there, they said they expect us to as it's not a permanent career, it's just a government funded role to help the unemployed.... so the search continues I guess!

Again, not looking for advice, I just wanted to express myself because I'm feeling deflated. Has anyone else been in this position?

Think of this as an opportunity to shine in the role, and get a feeling of accomplishment from that. If you're good enough even at a basic job that they are not being choosy about recruiting for, you may be noticed and that may lead to other opportunities.

Opportunity doesn't usually just fall into anyone's lap - you have to get yourself into a position where you're trusted with it.
