first time buyers with a default

Hi

My partner and I are trying to get a mortgage. We are both first time buyers and earn approximately £38,000 between us a year.
We were declined a mortgage through Santander, we didnt know why at the time but have since found out my partner has 1 default on his credit profile from several missed payments on his mobile phone bill over a year ago (his credit score- 811 'fair').
I also have 2 missed payments on my profile and a confusion with my address on an electoral register but nothing else (my credit score - 763 'fair')

Since this we have been given a Decision in Principle from the Halifax up to £155,000

The house we are looking at buying is £100,000 with a £10,000 deposit (we have extra money for other fees).

Im just wondering for my own peace of mind what the likely chance of being accepted for a mortgage is? and if we should start saving more towards a 15% deposit?
Please help

Unless the missed payments were a LBG lender, they are unlikely to have shown up on the Halifax soft search. Same with the default. That may not have been picked up yet, so your true test comes at full application stage.

If you have not already done so, obtain all three credit files and see if the adverse appears on all of them, or just one or two...
