16 Year old looking for weekend job

Hello, I'm not sure if I posted this in the right place but if I haven't, please forgive me. I am 16 years old and I am looking for a weekend job. I currently live in London, hackney and I would like to do something like stacking shelves or do customer service or anything in a supermarket. I have look on the internet and can't find anything. I am also welcome to do other jobs but it has to be a weekend job as I go to college. Can any of you suggest any links or know if anyone is recruiting.
Thanks!:j:j

FYI, I have look on the internet for the past 5 months looking for work, I have added websites to my bookmark and checked back everyday nearly 3 times a day. I have gone in to supermarkets and asked if they had any vacancies in which they replied no. I have uploaded my CV to various websites, I have put an ad for myself on gumtree and I have emailed many employers that I am waiting replies for. So just to ask for a little help in asking other people if they know any other people employing is getting things "served on a plate"?0 -

I think you misunderstood the previous post - the poster was wishing you luck because you are not like those expecting it on a plate.
I too wish you luck on that basis

I too applaud your initiative. I would expect jobs like this to be found by doing lots of asking around locally. If you know people who are 18 and about to go to University they may know of a friend who has a weekend job which will shortly become vacant.
I did office cleaning in the evenings when I was your age, and worked in a charity shop (as a volunteer) for half a day on saturdays. It got me off to a good start in the world of work.0 -
Two of my sons have both got jobs by actually helping out local storekeepers without being paid to start with, they've helped pack away at the end of the day...Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

Get yourself all gussied up in dark trousers shirt and tie and print off introduction letters and take them personally to the shops in your area.
Don't discount anyone! Hairdressers employ young people to sweep up hair clippings and keep the sinks clean and make coffee for customers.
Give it a go. Smile and you will find people will respond to you differently.
If all else fails then the charity shop is a good idea. At least it gives you a reference.
Good luck with your search. You might like to suggest you do holiday cover or sickness cover - even temporary work gets you a reference.Mags - who loves shopping0 -
My daughter had most success by doorstepping local shops/restaurants with a short CV. After months of applying to jobs without success, she got three offers by doorstepping.
Put word out among your friends too, a lot of jobs go to friends of friends...x x x0 -
Shops don't advertise on the Internet, or in newspapers. They either stick a sign in the window, or take in applications from people who turn up and ask if they have any jobs. Hit the streets and go window shopping.0

Small shops maybe, but larger chains tend to only take online applications. Either way, you've got to get out and look, you won't find it online. Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0
