I just noticed that the company I applied for a job with was not the one I researched (as they had similar names) - because I trusted that company I gave this one, well everything. But now I see its not even vat registered, or with a company number.
I suppose a passport photocopy is not that useful if I report it lost, and I have no money they can take so I will switch banks (I was going to anyway for better student overdraft). They can't really get much out of my certificate photocopies or a CV.
But I cannot change my NI number?
Also I don't want to report any stolen ID's (like my passport) as I'm having crb check based on the same documents and if it flags up stolen it will delay it.

Of course you don't want to say your passport has been stolen because that would be lying.
Not every business has to be VAT-registered (start-ups serving private households may not want to until they grow their turnover) nor does every business have to be a limited company.
How close in name to the organisation you provided documents was the organisation you researched? If there appears to be a case of "passing off", the researched company may like to know.0
