I had the same podperson. I've been a proof reader for going on three years, but mine pinged back with a 3* too. I presumed I hadn't included enough keywords or something like that, if that is how you are marked.

I'm loving this thread though! I've just started a proof reading course that was recommended by the SfEP and I'm finding it really useful :) I know nothing about publishing as all my work has been online. It is definitely possible to get work without a qualification though! :)

What course are you doing, rachelja? Let us know your thoughts, please. Thank you for your post.

I agree: it's a nice little nest of positivity here. I think we're all pretty much similar in aspiration, so let's keep the info and support flowing.

Hi VanMan2007! I'm doing basic proofreading with the publishing training centre. I do agree with the comments on here that perhaps the course isn't necessary. However, it's distance learning so it fits in well with my lifestyle, and prior to seeing the useful links posted on here any other agencies I had seen did ask for info about your qualifications. Your situation may be different though, already having an English degree may hold more weight than a course like this, I don't know. My degree is in foreign languages so not a lot of help :rotfl:

    Thanks rachelja,

Whether it's specifically necessary for this job or not, it's another string to your bow and a gold star on your resume. So a good investment, I'd say. Crack-on, girl!

It's probably more relevant than Beowulf or Dream of the Rood!

    Domo arigatou gozaimasu.
(You'll get that, with a Degree in Foreign Languages!) ;)

Nope I had to Google that, wow do you speak Japanese? I did Russian :rotfl:

How's your researching going? Have you applied for anything or still deliberating? It's hard to know what to do sometimes ;)

I've spent a bit of time in Japan, did six visits, so picked up a bit of the language; but when you don't use it, you lose it!

Not applied for anything yet. I want to add to my skillset before applying. Got some textbooks on the way, reading some I've downloaded and installed MS Office 2010, so getting to grips with that also.

Hopefully, all that is not just procrastination! ;)
