Credit Report Help

Hello I am looking for some advice.
I have a bad mark on my credit report which is not my fault and I am wondering if its worth trying to get it sorted or if its a waste of time.
About 5 years ago I agreed to add my name to my girlfriend-at-the-time's bank account. However I never actually paid any money in or took any money out, didn't use it at all. We broke up a couple of years later and when I tried to remove my name from the account it was a 'computer says no' moment. They could only remove my name by closing the account and the account was its overdraft and my ex couldn't afford to put it right. Since then its been defaulted and been passed to debt collectors and she is slowly paying it off.
Now, as its not my debt and my ex is willing to accept full liability for it, do I have a case to get this cleared from my report? If so, how?
Thanks in advance
D

Doubtful, as when you opened the account in joint names you would have agreed that any negative information could be recorded on your credit file. Any private arrangement between you and your ex over who pays for it doesn't effect that.Still rolling rolling rolling......

Not sure what the rules are about removing names from accounts, should be possible without closing it if one of you keeps it open I would have thought.
Maybe start with a written complaint on that basis and see where you get.
What's the default date?
Presumable you have filed a notice of disassociation with all 3 CRAs?:beer:0 -

Default date is Jan 2013
Haven't filed notice of disassociation, should I? I do still have a mortgage with her on a property. Will that make a difference?0 -
Still worth a complaint. Is the default date actually correct as very recent?
No, if you have a joint mortgage you are still financially associated, so even if you don't have any defaults, lenders may still search her report and if she does that's not good for you.:beer:0 -

Yes although we broke up a while ago, the account was still being used for a bit and I'm pretty sure that was is the default date.
So where should I start? do I still notify dissociation even though I still have a mortgage with her? And where do I go from there to clear the default?
Thanks,0 -
Whilst the overdraft debt is still outstanding you will not be able to file a notice of disassociation.
You will not be able to get the default removed from your credit file, as legally you are liable for the debt the same as your partner.
Once the overdraft is paid off then the default should be marked as satisfied on both your files.
At that point, and if you have not lived together for 6 months it may be possible to file a notice of disassociation even though you still have a joint mortgage together see second para of this FAQ - http://experian.metafaq.com/help/Statutory/Credit_report/former_partnerA smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
