Hello all,
So today I received an email from Buchanan Clark and Wells saying that they have previously tried to contact me about some debt I owe. They gave me a reference number and a phone number to call. After a quick look up of who they are I determined that they were a real company and this set me in a bit of a panic.
I've never been in debt or owed money ever before, I recently moved from one rented property to another. At the old property it was originally with Scottish Power but we moved to NPower as they were cheaper. This was all before December 2012. During the first week of January 2013 I had letters from Scottish Power claiming we owed them money. I called up and everything was sorted on the 4th of January 2013, the whole contract was cancelled and we paid what we owed in the fuel we used.
Late February we had to move out of that property due to issues with the property. I contacted every company to tell them that we had to move and they put everything on hold. Then out of the blue today I got this email from the debt collectors, 4 months after I finished my contract with Scottish Power.
I called Buchanan Clark and Wells this morning and got through to one of their advisers after giving them all my details they told me it was Scottish Power I owed money too and then they hung up on my without saying how much I owed. I found a template letter on here to request the original documents of the alleged debt and have both emailed that and posted it to the company.
I stated that I would give them a week to produce this and if it turned out I did owe money then I would happily pay it. However what do I do if they don't respond but claim I still owe it? I don't want to get a bad credit rating from this as this will affect my later life! Any advice?
Thanks
Jeff
