Does anyone have any tips on how to use a back boiler more efficiently?

I have no room thermostat so its either on or off. It does have a timer though.
Been there, done that and Ebay'd the t shirt.

Not sure of the mechanics of a back boiler so I can't help with that sorry! I have an immersion heater water tank which has a timer but no thermostat (could be a similar thing? I know nothing about plumbing/heating). It only heats water for sinks (elec heaters, elec shower) so I have it programmed to be on for 45 mins in evening about 6.00.
This is sufficient to heat the water for washing up in evening and for washing hands etc all day, wash in the morning (if not having a shower). There's only me so I don't use a huge amount of water, plus I rarely have baths so I never need that volume of hot water.

    Hope this might help
