so why are you working for NOTHING at an internship? I don't get that?
I'm doing an internship and working for nothing as thats what most graduates have to do now to get anywhere in their chosen career.
I suppose I could quit my internship and go on benefits, but as far as I am concerned that would be a step backwards. I am also not sure if they would pay my rent. and I am also not sure of whether I would be able to sign on as I have a job offer? No idea.0 -

Yes you have a job offer but you havent started yet so as far as the JC are concerned your out of work ( if you were to quit the internship )0 -
i think you should speak to HR in person, maybe a manager. Explain the situation with your rent they may be sympathetic.
Is it possible that they're taking the p***. I.e maybe there is no job and they want you working for free as long as possible0 -
The job is not where the OP is doing the internshipJobseeeker wrote: »i think you should speak to HR in person, maybe a manager. Explain the situation with your rent they may be sympathetic.

My thoughts exactly and they could just say until they get a set start date they are looking for short term work doing anything just to get the JSA - many people do a lot worseYes you have a job offer but you havent started yet so as far as the JC are concerned your out of work ( if you were to quit the internship )We’ve had to remove your signature. You should have done this at the beginning and left the internship as you had a job offer then say you are waiting on a set start date but till then you are looking for any paying work and yes if you have rent to pay they would have paid that tooI'm doing an internship and working for nothing as thats what most graduates have to do now to get anywhere in their chosen career.

I agree with PP who suggested you call up HR and have a chat. Explain that you've sent all your documents X weeks ago, and ask what else is needed from you. Now that the 'checking' firm have received your documents, I'm a little unclear myself why you're still waiting on a start date.
It may be a little late for this, but I would also start to Cc any important correspondance from the 'checking' firm to HR, e.g. if they acknowledge receipt of your documents, you can reply to thank them... and Cc HR

Has the internship job offer been withdrawn? If that is still available it may be worth calling the other companies bluff: you need to start within 14 days or you must turn down the offer, then take the original job.0
