I have paid £50 by direct debit to this DCA for the past year so have had no dealings with them over the phone until the past 2 months..
Last month I called to pay an extra £60 to my account..
And this month to date I have paid an extra £120!!
There is £65 left to pay which I have told them I would be paying before the end of the month to settle this account, so they cancelled my long standing direct debit, which has always been paid since the arrangement was made.
Anyway, got a letter today saying that my direct debit request had been set up by them to take £65 a month for the next 5 months until the debt is cleared. This was dated 15/05/2013.
So I called them today to clear this up as my balance is only £65 so there is no need for them to have set anything like this up...
First agent - Went through security, asked if I was paying the £65 today. When I said no there was a long pause, then she said "Well what are you actually calling here for then?" I guess this is a suitable reply but her tone and attitude were disgraceful!!
Needless to say that call did not last long!
Second agent - Did the same security. Asked if I was making paymeny, I said no as I have overpaid by £120 already this month. He replied that he had noticed this and asked how he could help!
Im sure that agent 1 has obviously never had any debt problems in her whole life, hope her day at work is greeeeaaat!!

Sorry to hear of your problems with getting your payments sorted, unfortunately it seems quite common to be patronised and dealt in a rude manner by some of the people we have to deal with. I have tended to find they are of 3 main varieties.
The first is the type that has the same characteristics of a Rottweiler and has the personality to match. Only a full payment is the only option they will consider. They probably want to either get a bonus or be star debt collector of the month.
The second is helpful, willing to listen and to solve any problems. There can be some element of getting you to pay but they are not completely insistent.
The third lets you take total control of the situation, is almost apologetic in any dealings you have with them and makes you feel that perhaps a discussion as to whether debt collection is really the right career path for them would be of more use. Most likely not to be there in a few months time due to underperformance.
Wisdom comes from experience. Experience is often a result of lack of wisdom.0 -

Actually, I winced at the direct debit bit.
Not the best thing to do, I would call again :-) and ask for their details so you can set up a standing order and cancel the direct debit. It leaves you in control and not them.0 -
Thanks, Have cancelled the direct debit with them and the bank already.
Only £65 let to pay so will do it on pay day, will keep a standing order in mind for future debts I tackle tho.March 2013 LBM so here goes....PAID OFF £6944! Unfortunately have built it all back up again! Amounts to be added up soon! Scare myself into action! 30/05/2018 LBM 20
