Sorry if this is the wrong board but i couldn't seem to find anywhere else to ask this question.
I have an ATE for unpaid council tax from last year and its costing me £40 a month. i'm struggling and wondered if anyone can tell me if they are good about reducing this amount and if so how little will i get away with paying?

Hi there
I have no personal experience of ATE but a friend of mine did and she was paying approx £200 pcm from her wages for a council tax debt. She tried to get this reduced and was not able to. She had the Money Advice Centre involved (maybe this is a brighton-thing) and still no joy... she got stung for unpaid council tax on shared houses going back something like 5 years.
Sorry. Hope you have more luck than she did!Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.0 -
aw not what i wanted to hear.

We have experience of this, the amount depends on what u earn, we were paying nearly 200 a month, so 40 isnt too bad but i guess it depends on how much u earn.
Dont think it can reduced though, have u a lot to pay off still?

Kyle is correct.
An attachment of earnings for council tax is calculated as a % of your earnings and again the % is based on your pay.
I dont have the %'s to hand I'm afraid but agree with the other posters that you would find this difficult to reduce as the calculations already take into consideration the cost of living.

Hi - it's a percentage of your salary. I can't remember them i'm afraid, it's a long time since I worked in the CT offices
Here we are - found this - Schedule 4 has the tables showing how much

Thats odd about the %. Mine was never worked out but was what i offered to pay. (thinking i could manage it)
I owed a little over £400 now it must be a little over £300. My income is less than £950 inc benefits for two of us.
I'm really struggling and every penny counts so even a reduction of ten pound would help.
Thanks for all the replies. The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter0 -
BLTN - I think that they sometimes do action the AOE's that way - if thats the case then I would certainly speak to them about reducing.
