Defaults upon defaults

Options
I was a young stupid person a few years ago got credit cards, loans overdrafts with very little income at first it was ok because I was able to afford to pay it but then I lost my job and was unable to pay then came the charges upon charges and letters/phone calls which all turn to defaults.

These accounts were all sold to debt collection agency's, with this in mind when I finally got a job to start paying off these debts I started to gamble which made me borrow from high street lenders and payday loans. I have now stopped gambling, but am trying to deal with these outstanding debts I have got myself.

I was wondering when the defaults would start to disappear of my credit file is it 6 years from the default date or is it 6 years from the settled date. Because in need to start getting this done as my girlfriend and I want to get a mortgage on a flat in a few years time and I need these gone.

Well done in quitting gambling, and dealing with your debts.

It is 6 years from default date.

If you want a house/flat save up like mad, budget properly, keep a spending diary, get the best deals on all essentials, and don't buy stuff you don't need.

Your credit file should list the current owners of the account.

Chances are, if you have some money, you should be able to offer a full and final settlement below the full amount, especially as owned by DCAs.

When were the cards etc taken out?

Yes, if taken out before April 2007 and they don't have one/its not valid then can offer less in F&F, as you know :)
