Natwest, are they strict lenders?

I am hoping to get a mortgage with natwest through the help to buy sceheme.

I was just wondering if anyone had any recent past experince with them, applicants and brokers. If so, are they strict?

I am buying a new build via a mortgage broker specialising in new builds.

I have a 5% deposit and will be using the 20% government help to buy scheme loan.

Does anyone have info also, from natwest regarding their rates, stamp duty, product fee? many thanks

'Strict' in what sense? Any particular concerns you have?
Rates etc are on their website
If you have a broker have you not asked them?

    Stamp duty?

Nothing to do with the lender. It's a tax you'll pay on completion.

Halifax has products which pay a cashback of 1% on FTB purchases between £125,001 and £250,000.

    Not NatWest.

Strict in terms of acceptance, I believe halifax are less stricter then natwest in terms of acceptance? The good thing is NW treat HTB as 75% LTV halifax does not.

Broker are crap, they are brokers that are specialists in new homes.

Got you, tried with halifax, unfortunately, they want 15% deposit, apparently, they treat the HTB as a 95%. Idiots for offering the product in the first place.

I seen the rates for help to buy on natwest's website, I think I would go for the fixed for 5 year 3.59% rate.

Just for reference, the fixed rate ends, and I stay with NW, i will be switched to a svr. Say if i was to move mortgage with another lender, would I have to go through another credit check, and show stuff like bank statements and wageslips again? I'm hoping to go into self employment in the next 4 years.
  • That is interesting that Natwest treat is at 75% LTV - does this mean those with a slightly 'shadey' past might stand more of a chance?

I only ask as I was going to do a single application due to my boyfriends credit history.
