Hi,
My OH and I have found a venue we really like; I was wondering whether anyone had tips on how to get the best deal? It's currently £60 per person which is 3 course meal and drinks with evening buffet. You have to have a minimum of 50 guests though. Any tips on how to haggle a bit? Everyone tells me that it's expected but I don't know what to do or say! X

From what I've seen, it's easier to haggle if you are willing to put the deposit down on the same day. Other than that, I have no tips!0

I've heard that a lot of places are reluctant to knock prices down but are usually quite prepared to throw in extras - such as canap!s, wine upgrades, etc. Perhaps try that if haggling on price doesn't work.0

You will struggle if its a hotel with set prices, they command these types of prices for weddings. You could speak with the manager if you putting down a larger deposit or paying in full you could then ask for a percentage off in doing this ! but if your just putting down standard deposit theres not lots of room for negotiation !0

Is it somewhere that's really popular and will definitely get booked out? Ours isn't, so we haggled a fair bit. It's always worth a try, if you don't ask you don't get!
Things that we got a discount on:- We weren't having the ceremony there so got £500 off for that as it's less work for them on the day
- Their prices for kids meals was expensive compared to some other local places, we got £10 per kid off
- We swapped champagne for prosecco for the toasts
- We asked for no wine for teenagers even though they're eating adult meals, got us about £20 off per teenager
Every little helps! I just did it by email so that I had things in writing, and I gave reasoned arguments as to why I believed we should save money on certain items. I'm sure there are other things you could barter onMother, wife, scientist, analyst.
