Costco, is it worth going?

I live 60 miles from a Costco and have never been there.
I keep hearing that it is a lot cheaper than Asda or Tesco for shopping.
Considering that we, wife and I, are the only two in my house and we spend between £50 - £100 per week on shopping, would we gain the cost of the 3 gallons of petrol by shopping there?
How cheaper are prices at Costco than Tesco or Asda?

Getting forgetful, if you think I've asked this before I probably have. :rotfl:

It's mixed really. We use it for bulk-buying Felix catfood (definitely cheaper) and meat which isn't necessarily cheaper (sometimes it is) but is fantastic quality. I just can't find a use for tins of beans the size of a small child, but the £25 annual membership pays for itself just on catfood for us."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

if you want to buy things you don't need its great, somethings are cheaper, some aren't, i was a member once but don't see the £25 value in it.0

Thought this might help, you can shop online.

Not worth it at all, we used to use it for our business but not any more. Try Aldi instead. Why travel 60 miles for food shopping, there must be better things to do with your time!0

i found everything I bought to taste nice and be of high quality but didnt find it cheap, in fact some things were cheaper in the supermarket because of offers.
I have left my card expire, I do miss some things but didnt really make any savings0 -
Why travel 60 miles for food shopping
My wife's friend, who has 5 people in her house is always raving about it to my wife.
I told her to cadge a lift with her friend and see what it is like.
Only problem, there isn't enough room in her friend's car for 6 people and their shopping.
Also, nobody mentioned £25.Getting forgetful, if you think I've asked this before I probably have. :rotfl:0 -
I have been a member for years. When I had teenagers at home, I used it a lot. They used to like the designer clothes and trainers etc. from there, that's how it was in those days. I always ended up spending a fortune whenever I went. But, what I liked was that I could buy fantastic gifts for my assistants who were not members and it looked like I had spent a fortune, LOL. Now lots of people are members, it is not really possible to do that, in my opinion.
Our cirumcumstances are different now, my grown up children are members and spend a fortune on their families, LOL. I am still a member and look forward to going for a mooch but really, I only buy meat, prawns and some other food, especially if I am having a bbq. Their little pats of butter are handy to have in the freezer too. It is not too far for me to travel and, as I said, I like to have a mooch. I probably do save the annual fee, especially by being selective and having a good awareness of special offers going on in the supermarkets. You have to be prepared to divide up, e.g. the mince, chicken, prawns etc. to freeze in smaller quantities. I love their boneless chicken thighs, I think the quality of the meat there is excellent. I will probably keep up my membership, even though I have retired now.0 -
i go regularly and bulk buy things like frozen chicken, bog roll and dog food. Everything there is good quality and if you can afford to bulk buy you can save alot of money on some things but other items are cheaper in the supermarket0

if you are prepared to bulk buy you will save in the long run,
some things offer huge discounts, others not so good espically if supermarkets have offers.
you can cancel your Costco membership at any time and get a full refund, so in theory you could let your membership run for 11 months, cancel get a refund.0 -
I would suggest you have the wrong idea about Costco, it is not a supermarket but more of a wholesaler when it comes to food items, the quality is IMO excellent, there are deals but on things like 12tins of sweet corn or 20 litres of vegetable oil etc etc not on 2 packs of beans or 240 tea bags.
To travel 60 miles to spend £50 a week is a bit of a no brainer, stick to your local butcher and supermarkets and if you do get h chance to have a look try it but not sure it would be what you seem to have in mind."Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain."
