    Tesco's profits have not been rising so shareholders expect drastic measures for speedy results. To be honest I wish tesco would concentrate on their ranges of food and store layout first. There is a big tesco up the road but I do not shop their much tbh, not when there is a big Lidl next to it! I do shop online with ASDA quite a lot too when I am too busy for a supermarket trip. There 2 of us and 2 cats and we probably spend about 2k a year, but could be less if I really worked at it.

    I soooo know what you mean about floor layout dup, so according to Tesco we'd have to be spending roughly £135 pw - that's an enormous amount of money to us lot but I wonder how other people are shopping, surely the average family knows something about shopping wisely?

    I am beginning to wonder tbh.

    Do those shops with the bins of stuff that you scoop yourself the amount still exist anywhere? I used to love those shops as I only bought what I needed.

    Not since they researched the 'average' bin and found traces of faeces from many individuals, insects of all variations, evidence of mice and other vermin, bacteria from various sources (remember coughs and sneezes spread diseases? ;) ) The scoops weren't very hygienic either.. the great unwashed would handle the scoops then put them in the bins meaning they may as well just put their hands in the bins because the yucky things from hands went to scoops then to food..

    I think it's quite obvious from looking at people's trolies and on these boards that many people don't shop wisely. I spend as much on my family of four as my parents do for the two of them. My mother still does a few top up shops in between big weekly shops too.

    :eek::eek::eek: I dont fancy E-Coli flavoured sultanas.

    I am horrified by checkout assistants licking their fingers to open the carrier bags. _pale_

    I think now that both parents tend to work full time it is a wonder that they can be bothered to do the dinner at all.
    Those that work all day and manage to provide healthy food deserve a medal in my opinion.
    Meal planning and costing, and cooking from scratch is time consuming even for those of us old enough to have had domestic science classes and plenty of time.
    I wish ready meals were more substantial and healthy, and then it wouldn't matter if families used them a lot. :)

    Regarding shops with those bins, I have seen one fairly locally. It's the first I've ever seen. OH said he worked in one for a time as a teenager.

    The one I saw, with open-topped bins, made me imagine that many items would be low quality. Cereals were included - I AM pretty wasteful with food so I'm not the best person to judge, but I can't imagine many people want cereals that have been left all day in an open-top container? Do they not go a bit stale?

    I've seen a few organic and eco/health shops that sell via bins of loose items, I think it's a much better idea. I rarely shop in a supermarket these days and is shocking just how big some of the packaged items are, especially in Asda.
