building supervisor interview

Hi all

My OH has got an interview for the above post, (with supervision) in a primary school

Any one any idea on what questions he may be asked to help him prepare?

I am guessing questions on cleaning, security, confidential info, what do you do if there's a break in etc..

Any one any other ideas?

They might ask things about what would you do if a stranger was hanging round, or a pupil said they had been flashed at etc.
They will probably ask about what would you do if you smelled gas, saw smoke or saw a pupil with a knife etc.
Its all those things really.
They might ask something like how would you ensure that the building was as safe as possible for all its users etc. What would be your priorities when you start the job etc.
They will ask something about equal opportunities and to give examples of this in your work.

I have had interviews for similar positions, he will be asked about scenarios like you come in and smell gas or find water pouring through the ceiling and you have to say what you will do.

Just get him to think about what he will do when disasters happen.

Don't forget the children's Health and Safety is top priority.

I hope he does better than me, I didn't get the job due to applicants with more experience.:(

All of which should be already documented within their risk assessments and procedures so anything relating to emergency related issues needs to start 'upon commencement I will check over the full risk assessments and look to reduce any risk, and if an emergency occurs not covered by a documented risk assessment, I'll firstly make any situation safe if possible and call emergency services if necessary. Anything else, I'll be following safeguarding, H&S or other procedures that have already been written and as taught to me during your induction process'.

Thanks everyone, most helpful. He has 5 applications in for school caretaker and school building supervisor, so hopefully if nowt else, he will learn something from the interview and hopefully get another interview for one of the other schools.

i am also guessing a child protection question of some sort will come up...

eg maybe...what would you do if you saw a child crying? something like that,

interview is for a primary school in NI.

'I'd follow the child protection safeguarding guidelines that you have in place as explained during the induction training'.
