Tinted moisturiser or foundation - which do you prefer?

Just wondering what the general opinion is on here. I have both a tinted moisturiser and a foundation and both are running out and I don't know which one to purchase, I don't want to get both, I am trying to save money.

What do people on here prefer as their main face base?

Foundation, I only really use tinted moisturiser on holiday.

I prefer tinted moisturiser although I also use BB creams. I never use foundation.

Do you have any normal moisturiser?

Buy the foundation and mix half foundation with half moisturiser = tinted moisturiser :P

A flexible foundation, one that can either be sheered out as necessary on its own or depending on the formula mixed with moisturiser, highlighter etc. I am currently using MAC pro full coverage.

Just butting in here but when you mix foundation and moisturiser together does this reduce the SPF in the foundation? I use a foundation with sun protection in but a moisturiser without so how would it work?

@Fusspot, yes it would reduce the SPF but most foundations dont have sufficient anyway, I would suggest you invest in a dry facial sunblock, I like Boots No7 anti dark mark it costs about £12 but lasts ages, only a small amount needed, SPF50 and wont make your make up slide off or cause a reaction, you can then use other products as normal.

Up to recently i had a tinted moisturiser.

However needed a touch more coverage but not wanting full foundation as I am oily and it tends to sit in pores and get the flat chalky look over the planes of the face and the shiny slick look round the nose and chin*... I bought soap n glory 'give good face'

its a light coverage, has a primer in it already. ace.

Best foundation/light cover i have ever owned - one note you need to shake it - shake it HARD to mix the primer and the foundation

    * I know there is a plethora of foundations out there that wont do this but they used to run and hide when i was shopping for them :D I cant tell you the number of 'perfect match' - 'intelligent cover' - 'perfect skin' type foundations i have upstairs languishing unused in a drawer
Please note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...
  • For me, BB creams beat them both hands down. I find it BB gives a nice coverage, but isn't as 'visible' as the others, if that makes sense.

The problem with high factors sun blocks are that they are generally opaque, even when given a chance to be absorbed by the skin - I used one all last summer under my foundation and had to adjust the shade to compensate (and even then it didn't photo well).

I tried a BB cream a few months ago and simply hated it, but I think it was more about the brand than anything else.

Last year I discovered Stila tinted moisturiser at Poundland and haven't looked back - SPF15, and I add my SPF15 foundation on top in the areas that require a little more coverage. Of course I look completely gorgeous at all times now :D
