Sky chasing debt unfair cancellation fee

Options
I hope I am posting in the correct forum and dont get flamed, Newcomer here hi fellow moneysavers :p

I signed up with Sly for there 6 month half price offer through quidco to get some cashback didn't go through online so I called them and they offered me a better deal at £19 per month throughout my 18 month contract for tv, free sky movies for 6 months unlimited broadband and phone, good deal right?

Well I moved house around October and the bill more than tripled to £90 per month I called them and all charges seemed to add up at the time and I was assured that this would be the only blip and next month we would be back down to the normal rate of £19..next month the bill rolls in and guess what? £100 odd!

I called them and they agreed there was a mistake with their billing department and I would be credited with the overpayment on my next bill to which I responded I would like to cancel my contract using the current price hike as my get out clause the agent said this would be fine, I was at work at the time and they were taking forever so said I would call back a few days later.

I gave them a call a few days later and this agent took a different tone, not so helpful. He tried pushing me into taking a new contract or I would be facing multiple cancellation fees I told him I was leaving due to the new price hike and he said "sky are clamping down on people who are doing this" and the new charges are reasonable..I have been receiving nothing but debt letters from them since and the bailiffs have just got involved upping the £70 cancellation fee to £105.

This is all to complicated for me to explain even through here as I dont know exact dates and figures etc..I cant imagine explaining all of this to sky is this debt rightfully mine should I just pay the cancellation fees and have done with or do I escalate this and show them for the slimeballs they truly are?? :( never again!

You're sure bailiffs are involved and not just a debt collection company? Has it been to court?

    Hi,

If you genuinely feel that Sky were in the wrong, then I would escalate this within their organisation. Why pay if they were at fault?

As to the debt collectors, they can do little other than door knock or send letters asking you to make arrangements to pay - they do not have the same powers of bailiffs with a court order in hand.

Or you may want to come to some sort of compromise with the DC or Sky and offer a final payment of whatever you feel you actually owe.

    Not sure if that helps.
