I've just seen this, wouldn't surprise me if it isn't a similar statistic in England too http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-22554149

Perhaps, as a would be pedant you could learn to type properly

You sad creature. Oooo typos!!!!! The sky must be falling!

Suggest you look up pedant as, to be pedantic, your use of the word, in this context, isn't quite right. Pot....kettle?

If you hadn't made the comment about being educated and researching to that person who was asking about PGCE primary teaching then I wouldn't have said anything at all about your mistake. But if you can't take it you shouldn't dish it out.

Dish what out? You, SantimoniousSue, are clearly caught up in some warped, puerile fantasy.

Perhaps you didn't see the question:

I'm sure you'll let me know if I'm mistaken but surely the best way to assess the job situation is to research it? Or maybe they should just ask you as you're such a know-all.

Oh and maybe Reggie @nal would like to comment on the typing of this would be teacher too?????

Excuse my rubbish typing, I have a dodgy keyboard and as long as it makes sense to people on the internet I don't it as a huge problem. I wouldn't teach a child to spell a word incorrectly because I couldn't be bothered to correct it though!

Anyway, I was just pondering the question. I have a secure teaching post set up but didn't realise the situation. I could read government statistics and so on but sometimes it's interesting to canvas opinions of people too

I'm doing a PGCE, and the university I'm at only offers specific subjects, most of which are subjects with teacher shortages, and hence they offer large bursaries to do a PGCE in these subjects. They don't offer a primary PGCE as there aren't enough jobs! This way, they keep their '% who get jobs' statistic really high!!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

There is limited funding for primary PGCEs, as with non-shortage secondary subjects, so I don't think it is the university trying to make their numbers look good. They will have X funding for primary, x for non shortage, and x for shortage and it may well be that your university just has none for primary (they may not even have the right staff to offer primary PGCE so they might not even apply for primary funding)

There will always be primary teaching jobs around but it will be easier for some people than others. As someone already mentioned, there is a shortage of male primary teachers and even though primary subject speciality does not affect funding maths, science and MFL will be more desirable than English, humanities or the arts because there is a real shortage in those subjects.

For the people commenting on the OP not wanting to teach for more than a few years - that is the very point of Teach First, and schools bringing in Teach First applicants will be well aware of it. The idea is for top graduates to go into rough schools for a few years because many large companies (some of which are financial backers of the scheme) see this as some of the best training a person can get before they go off and work for a large city firm.

You can type how you please. I was just baiting the petty moaner.

And you don't need to expain yourself to me either. You posed a q, I made a comment, you gave a response. That was it until another moaner trotted out her high horse.

    Have fun teaching!
