    Would it really have any effect? I thought the bank stuff was in some kind of holding account and not included in the "general" defecit.

    As it's a kind of pretend money they simply tear up the pretend IOU? The debt never crystallised.

    Yeah the deficits and debt levels they quote on the news and the like don't include the bank bailouts, so any income won't make the deficit look smaller, unfortunately for Osborne.

    The point is that the tax payer will not see any benefit from the sales; 'there is no money left'. I think that's probably why they're looking at giving them to tax payers, more likely to win votes.

    More likely that's difficult to value a business that's still undergoing change. Pre crash valuations now mean nothing.
