When someone is sick, the reasonableness of the request is questionable.

I have known doctors suggest someone takes a holiday as a means to getting well while off sick. It can be highly controversial but if the reason for sickness is work related then it may fly.

The request is reasonable to get paid if Sick pay has stopped.

But that is nott he issue since it is not upto the employee to justify the request, it is the employers refusal that needs to be justified(business reasons).

It is very hard for an employer to justify refusal when the employer is not actualy working(due to being sick).

Lack of money in the bank?

All in all I didn't realise the employee could choose when to take holiday and most employers would be reasonable enough to pay without fuss but again I can see why some employers make become awkward

    fair enough OP.

    The request was denied.

Do you know anything about employment law? I have read a few of your postings today and you seem to be giving advice without knowing anything.

If you are not sure about your facts it would be better if you didn't reply.

You also made an unnecessary remark about being educated and researching their local market to someone who was asking about the lack of jobs for PGCE primary teachers.

Thank you for all the information.
I dont think lack of funds is the issue, it is a very well known and expensive public school. Personally, I think they are being difficult My husband receives the princely sum of £165.00 a week for 2 and a half days. We shared caring duties for our disabled son who moved out recently, and both of us had part time jobs
Yes he has now signed on for ESA.

My husband has been off sick since November due to a work related accident.

Considering the employers intransigence, is there a case for your husband to pursue loss of earnings as part of a damages claim?

I'm sorry OP my comment was based on out of date knowledge.

I'd go and beat myself with a stick in the town square but I'd rather leave the vulgar display of piousness to SuzieSue. ;)

If you hadn't made the comment about being educated and researching to that person who was asking about PGCE primary teaching then I wouldn't have said anything at all about your mistake. But if you can't take it you shouldn't dish it out.
