will jobcentre help with travelling expenses?

Hi, just wondering if anyone had experience or knew if jobcentre will help me with travelling expenses. I'm on JSA and ive booked onto a forklift course for next month. Its 38 mile from me which would cost about 15-20 a day for fuel and it lasts 5 days.

so its quite a lot of money needed for fuel costs but I think it would greatly improve my chances of securing employment.

thanks

is driving cheaper than advance train fare?

I believe JCP help with interview costs (maybe as a reimbursement) but not sure about training.

    Good luck

When I was on JSA they did offer help with travel costs but I needed to have asked for before I went for the interview so if your in to see the advisor before you go ask them about the costs. Do you not know anyone who lives near to where the training is ?
  • yeah i think it would be cheaper its 19.60 for advance return fare then bus to station on top of that :(

If the training is arranged through JCP and you ask them in advance they will usually help with public travel costs although it is discretionary.

If it isn't arranged through them then be very careful, they may consider that you are not available or actively seeking work for that period and attempt to sanction you. I would suggest asking them what would happen if you did book onto this course rather than let them know you already have to check what the consequences are.

If they booked you on it then there should be help for the travel or the people doing the course pay it

If however its arranged by you then you I think are on your own

They dont help with much now, one week I had three interviews and they wouldnt help with any of the costs, even though they knew beforehand, as they were within expected travelling distance.
If it was booked through the Job Centre or a work programme then they may help you, as I know people who have done forklift course through the work programme and they had travel paid for each day. Like already said, if you booked it yourself, there probably wont be much help available.
