Does your flat have a water meter? Are you able to see the meter?
How much water does your bill say you have used?
Does it say the readings are actual or estimated? Is the start date the same date that you moved in?
When you say you have checked for leaks do you mean you have just looked for them? or do you mean you have done a full check by turning off the stopcock and then checking to see that the meter is no longer turning?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Thanks for your reply the water meter is in my flat so the readings are actual.
I have turned the water off and left it for a few hours and it has not moved which suggests there is not a leak.
I have watched the meter and it was 072414101 then I have filled a small tea cup with water and it has gone to 072414140 I dont know if that is about right or if the meter is reading high has I have never had a water meter before.0 -
The date I moved in is correct that the readings are what were on the meter. They read the meter on the 15th and I updated the reading this morning and they said there is a big difference which does not seem correct.0

Hi Vicki84
I just recently received our first water statement after we'd moved into a new flat - our usage was coming in at nearly £600 for just 5 months!!! I rang our supplier straight away and they sent someone out, it turns out our hot water tank was constantly overflowing at a rate of nearly a litre a minute. As the overflow pipe is completely enclosed the leaking water was in no way visible so we couldn't have picked up on it. Our landlord fixed the problem as soon as it was identified and now we're just waiting to figure out the cost of leak by providing usage figures for a couple of months.
Perhaps it is worth contacting your supplier or a local plumber as it would seem you have a leak somewhere, it may just be you can't see it!!

Some newer toilets dont have an overflow pipe popping out if the wall - they have an interal one which runs excess water into the pan.
Have you had a look at your toilet?0 -
I have checked the toilet and there does not seem to be any problems. The latest development is that when I checked the meter at 7pm tonight it is moving up every second this is still happening now no water has been used.
Severn Trent are now going to send out someone to investigate. Will watching the the meter I though I heard my downstairs neighbour turn off a tap the meter them stopped briefly and then carried on moving up I may of misheard though.
I am definitely reading my meter so there is no mistake and when I run a tap etc the meter moves up.
I'm hoping they find a solution thank you to everyone for their advice and replies. I have just been worrying has there is only me living here and they want to now charge me £64 per month dd which will take a big chunk on my wage. I will have to get someone to check in the attic for me has I have a disability and cannot get up there easily in case there is anything up there.0
