To be quite honest, unless you're going to grow the hell up you won't get many positive responses. "Going to the police", "Bank have stolen the money of a 6 year old boy".
At the end of the day, its your fault that the money has laid dormant, not the banks. You failed to update them of the address on the account.
However, you should write to the banks complaint department if you feel as though they aren't doing enough. They will then have 8 weeks to satsify your complaint, and if they do not then you can escalate your complaint to the FOS.0 -
Which bank is this?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

that's very rude, and I am sitting in tears here. I was asking for advice on where to go next when the bank will not tell you where your Child's money is. We forgot to change the address on one account, we do have three others with the same bank. I did say In The first post that it was fair enough that they had to go through this, but we are long outside the 28 days they said we would be waiting with no feedback at all.
We have submitted a compliant. But no one is replying or updating us on anything and we have no idea where to turn next. Won't bother asking for any help on here next time.0 -
Staff in bank branches these days often have about the same powers as checkout staff in Tesco! Going into the branch for something like this is a waste of time. Put in a written complaint to the complaints address on their website regarding the length of time it has taken to process this - make it clear that they have records of your addresses from your other account records, and make it clear that if it is not resolved to your satisfaction within the 8 week limit you will be escalating it to the Financial Ombudsman service.
The staff in branch are more interested in meeting their sales targets than solving odd problems like this that they don't really know what to do with - forget face to face, forget phoning and get it in a letter.Adventure before Dementia!0 -
I think you guys need to be fair. I put quite a lot of personal information in the first post and got told to grow the hell up. I am not a new poster, I have been here for years, and no one posts on these boards if they don't need help. Sometimes it helps to be a little more sensitive to other people.
I haven't said that I won't post again, I just won't be asking for help on this particular board again.0 -

You could have saved yourself a lot of time and effort my writing the following.Hi,
I unfortuantely forgot to update my son's bank account information and have not used it in a very long time. It has been made dormant according to the bank so I am unable to withdraw the money that my son wants to use for his bedroom.
Now I understand the bank are looking into it, but its been almost 3 months and nothing has been done about it. Can anyone advise what I should do next?
Simple, calm, no accusations of stealing. No toys out of prams. I am sorry if you were offended by my post but a lot of users here are employees of banks, and I doubt would like hearing that some poster is accusing their employer of stealing
I would have then replied. You should have, if not already, written a letter of complain to the banks complain department. They have 8 weeks to resolve your issue and if they do not do so, you can escalate your complain to the FOS. The bank usually have "Complaint Leaflets" where this is also explained. Make sure you make a refence of the complaint number, and preferably do everything by old fashioned pen, paper and stamp.0 -

If they want to retreat into private banking for the wealthy, nobody's stopping them."It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis0 -
Lokolo, you misquoted me twice. I 'asked' if the police were the next option, and said that I 'felt' like money had been stolen.
There were no accusations. I'm a pretty fair person, but this isn't a few pounds we are talking about, it is 4 figures of savings. We had forgotten to change the address and as our other statements are usually emailed and not posted, we thought we were no longer getting paper statements for our son. Genuine mistake about the address.
I don't stick around the banks part of the forum, because I have no idea about the technicalities, this is why I came here to ask a question.
You are also a long time user, and are more than aware of the forum etiquette. When your money is missing, and no one will help, it is fair to be emotional about it. Your advice was good, and I will be following it, but you should really have a look at the top section about remembering how posters here are human beings.0 -

The bank will help you, the money hasn't gone anywhere, it's not been stolen. All thats needed is a formal complaint, the bank have up to 8 weeks to respond. If they don't, you can take it to the FOS, you will get your money back.0
