Hi,
Just looking for some general feedback.
Worked for the NHS since 1980, over the years till 2004 when I took a career break worked full-time ending on a senior managers wage. Took a career break of 18 months with no advice for suspending the pension at that time.
Returned in 2006 part time to date.
Intend to retire early at 56.
Will my pension be calculated entirely at my current p/t salary regardless of all those years paying in full and at a decent salary?
Thanks

I think the pension is worked out on your last two years service, I think there is a calculator on the pension website which will give you a rough estimate, you can also ring them and they will send out a forecast.0

Yes thanks,
I have used the online calculator and it comes up with a lump of of £8500 and a pension of £300.
Can't believe for 33 years minus 18months and 6 years p/t equates to so little. What happens to the other 24 years ?0 -

Don't know about the specifics of the NHS scheme, But in the private sector defined benefit schemes it is usual to use full time equivalent salary for the calculation, its the service that is adjusted to account for part-time years.
e.g. 20yrs full time ( and in the pension schreme) will give 20yrs pensionable service plus say 10 years at 50% of a full time post will give 5yrs pensionable service, so 25 yrs service in total.
I would expect this to be documented in the scheme rules and in any documentation you where given on joining.0
