Simply not true, I have the 80GB version of this receiver, it records fine, it also has a very user friendly interface.;)

I'm assuming gromituk meant if you want to achieve 425 hours on the Funai then it has to be at low quality...

Well perhaps he / she may explain themselves better, if that is what he meant.

I assumed he meant that the Daewoo was " crap quality ", which it isn't.

You assume correctly, Sid. Thank you. My point is that there's a trade-off to squeezing more TV into a given space: nasty lossy compression. The double exclamation mark of delight is a tad over the top.

Oh, and talking of crap quality, as I understand it (and I'm willing to be corrected), all combined DVD recorders/hard disk recorders trans-code the incoming signal to make it suitable to put on a DVD even if it only goes on the hard disk. There is therefore a drop in quality on all material played back. If you don't want your data messed with, buy an HD-only PVR.

I believe it is only if you enable the Fast Copy functionality on the Panasonic - if you don't you get the full quality copy onto the Hard Disk but takes a lot longer to burn a DVD - not that we've noticed any loss in quality when we've enabled Fast Copy.

I was thinking about getting the Funai one as my DVDR went pop last week, I already have SKY+ but I may use the HDD for overspill. But I have a question, can you edit TV files before you drop them from HDD to DVD, or is it just like extremely basic copy feature on Sky+?

Re Gromit UK's mail above, you can select the quality level that the HDD records at (hence their 425 hour claim), I would have thought that the highest quality level would have been comparable with the best PVRs, no?

Most importantly (for me) the Funai plays DivX files.

    Cheers
