Hi Banwa well done on getting your debt down so well, and well done to Mr for getting the PPI back.

I can so relate to the bad news being living with your parents. It would drive me nuts too. In fact the last time we were in your position (ie waiting for a house purchase to go through), we stayed with my inlaws :rotfl::rotfl:

Lovely to hear from you both, I have [STRIKE]stalked you [/STRIKE]been over to your diaries to say hello

I am posting today because I am pondering about ironing. This is what happens when you have nothing else to worry about. I have always had a very particular routine for doing my laundry and when I described it to my Mum she looked at me like I was bonkers. You would understand the irony of this if you had ever met her.

Anyway now I am wondering if I have wasted valuable MSE time with my unnecessarily complicated washing routine. And am seriously considering starting a thread on the OS boards to find out.

Is this a sign of madness?

Few more payments have gone out so here is the latest. Still about £1000 to decide what to do with (not sure how much exactly, Mr B is holding on tight to his wages the big baddy)

    Virgin Mr B 1,893.92
    Virgin Banwa £ 72.43
    Halifax Banwa £ 1,872.00
    RBS Banwa £ 5,000.00
    Painting loan £ 303.00
    Overdraft Joint gone
    Overdraft Banwa £ 450.00
    Total £ 9,591.35
    Debt £26k 18/10/14
  • Oh i'd be getting rid of the Virg1n one less debt then :rotfl:

My washing routine goes like this : The wash baskets get full to bursting. Usually does burst all over the floor. Kids & DH moans about having no clean shirts/uniforms/socks etc and so I do a wash (if the weather says it will be nice as I've no tumble drier) After it's washed it gets hung, then when I remember it gets brought in. I don't iron DH's uniform as it has to be done a certain way and I never do it right (;) of course....why would i set myself up for that!) and I only iron the kids school uniforms or if we are going to a party/event. Then the rest of the washing gets taken up to my room and I only sort it when I can't see my bed anymore. When sorted DS1's clothes tend to be thrown all around his room -by him not me- and then end up back in the basket with a 50-50 chance of it still being clean  and DD/DS2 clothes end up in a basket outside their wardrobe waiting to be put away (this usually takes me about 5 days to pluck up energy to do) :o MY washing routine is a shambles. I freely admit it. I HATE doing the laundry !!!!:rotfl:

Ha ha DFW321 that made me laugh. I think I would kill someone if they put the clean clothes back in the washing basket. I go through phases of not washing until there are no clean clothes left.

    So what news?

Good Things since I last posted:j
    • Have managed to get Mr B to buy some clothes. We haven't been able to afford this for such a long time, so he now has 2 new pairs of shoes, and 3 new tops. Tis a minor miracle
    • I have some new clothes. 3 tops, 1 coat, 1 fleece, 1 dress, 1 pair of jeans and 3 :opairs of shoes. It is so much easier finding something to wear on a morning
    • Have a car share all set up from parents house
    • Opened a Santander 123 account to pay our bills out of. That feels grown up. We get cashback for utility payments etc
    • Got a refund from the Brook donkey people*
    • 2nd oldest step son has apprenticeship on Monday. As a 'graveyard operative'
    • Have decided to put the spare £1000 to one side for 1st mortgage payment. Just in case.
    • Mr B cooked another disastrous meal (it was like dog food) and to my relief has finally conceded that I should do all the cooking. Believe me, this is most definitely a Good Thing

Bad Things since I last posted:exclamati
    • Having a moral dilemma about the Brook donkey people
Mmm so the donkey people. They called me in February and asked me if I would pay £4 per month instead of £3 to which I said yes. Mr B asked me, nay DEMANDED, about a week ago why, WHY we were paying £48 per month to a donkey charity. To which I laughed and said no no no, it's FOUR pounds a month. Imagine my shock when I realised he was right and they had taken nearly £200 off us in the last 4 months.

So, people, I took it back. All of it. Through the direct debit guarantee. I have cancelled my direct debit altogether now. But the poor donkeys. I want to support the donkeys but no longer trust the charity. What to do, what to do.

Anyway, hope everyone is keeping well. Shall be doing the rounds soon to catch up

Can you just donate online each month and pay by debit card or set up a standing order?

Failing that do you have a donkey/animal sanctuary (that has donkeys) near you and you could donate to them or volunteer your time at fundraising events?
  • Perhaps you could send them a cheque once a quarter/year that way you're in control of what goes out. I had a similar thing quite a few years back with an old age charity and they had taken out double what I told them they could :( when I questioned it they made me feel so bad for asking I told them to keep it. I cancelled the DD though and i've never felt safe to do another one since because of them. I'd rather donate through charity shops (buying and giving them stuff) and the occassional race/charity event that friends do for them.

Good call with the extra money! You never know if you might need it :) xx

Thanks Eager Elephant, I think I will set it back up. I might volunteer at the cats protection too to ease my guilt.

Have realised that there is no way this house sale is going through before the next payday so we have paid some stuff off and it's all blooming gone. Blimey!

Just a quick update on the money front

We have decided not to pay anything much above mimimum payments until we move now, just to make sure we have a contingency fund. If there is anything left over after the move, then we'll pay it off then. Am having a few doubts about the boiler...

    Anyway

    Good Things:j
    • Agreed a Plan with Mr Banwa over money.
    • Have tidied up all direct debits and standing orders.
    • Changed all payments to the end/start of the month to manage it easier.
    • Think I have finally updated all companies/ banks and credit cards with new address (no mean fete when there are so blooming many!)
    • Apart from 2 more painting loans, all our debt is on 2 0%credit cards. Much less daunting than juggling loads of cards, I am really happy with that.
    • Mr B has moved department (back to his old one) and seems loads happier already. Which of course I am pleased about, but I am more pleased that he is more likely to get overtime on that shift! (I am a Mean Wife)
    • No Bad Things:j

    The Plan
    1. We will both pay a set amount into a bills account that neither of us has a card for, that will give us a little extra for emergencies.
    2. We will each pay £200 for food into an envelope every month, and put receipts in for anything we take out. He thinks we should have a sort of set menu and a kind of stock-cupboard shopping list. To have him thinking like this is great. He's fully on board with the budgeting thing, as he knows we are quite stretched with the new mortgage.
    3. This leaves us with £250 each per month for fuel and spends, so we have to budget carefully, no more of my spendthrifty ways
    4. Anything we have left over goes towards debt payments at the end of the month. We are no longer going to be uncomfortable paying the debt back, we will do it in our own good time.
