Buying a rental property in Spain/France ?

Hi,
My partner and I are considering buying an apartment in either southern Spain or Southern France and would hope to rent it out for most of the year. Any advice ? Anyone do this as a regular income ?
Any advice on where is best, e.g. City or coastal ?

RM, you need to give this very serious consideration, with reference to buying in Spain. With the austerity in Spain the Spanish Government are changing the law for non residents, letting their properties for short term lets i.e. holidays. Rules are getting very serious, with lots of regulations which must be adhered to. I would do a lot of research first. A good site (I found when buying a few years ago) is www.viva-almeria.com, not sure how up to date it is, but it does have a huge amount of information. Good luck, whatever you do.
