Fair point. I've never had a personal loan, myself, so don't know what effect it would have on credit rating. I was guessing that the debt would be a negative factor in terms of what would be offered, but I guess as you say the fact that he's paid it every month has got to be positive.

Either way, there's little harm in trying once. And a lot to gain if it works.
