First Mortgage Payment

Hi guys
I just wanted to ask a quick question, i've had search about first mortgage payments before, but i wanted to see if i could get a definitive answer.
I'm in the early stages of the housing process (offer accepted, solictors doing there thing, mortgage application accepted with Nationwide)
I know one of the confusing things i've found is information about the first mortgage payment.
Due to the way i get paid my mortgage payment date will be the 15th of each month.
Am i right in thinking, i need to get my completion date as close to my payment as possible so i don't incur much interest on my first payment?
Thanks in advance for any answers and advice

keep in mind banks have a calculation period so if your payment is on 15th of each month, could be the bank systems calculates those payments on the 10th or earlier or later.... so if you chose your completion date on the 14th, it might be too late ....
best to ask your bank0
